Program studies
Our Montessori method follows an "emergent" program.  An emergent program is a way of planning studies based on the student’s interests and passions. As well, we follow themes of study central to the philolsophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. Our classroom is prepared by qualified and experienced Montessori teachers. Children are able to  explore and make their own discoveries  with the use of  a wide range of beautiful manipulative materials.
All of the materials are designed with a purpose and a control of error in order to extend the child's knowledge, and encourage him or her toward independent exploration and discovery.  

To plan a Montessori emergent curriculum requires observation, documentation, creative brainstorming, knowledge, flexibility and patience. Rather than starting with a lesson plan,  an emergent curriculum at Norman Village Montessori introduces themes studies such as the seasons of the year, continents and countries of the world, and the evolution of our solar system and our planet earth. 

We study and celebrate cultural diversity on our planet, as well as  Canada's heritage and the culture and traditions of our First Nations peoples. Our Montessori Teachers follow the child's interests and use their knowledge and creativity to connect the child with purposeful activities. Families of the children attending are invited to share their  personal cultural experiences and traditions with the class,  further enriching the memories and lives of our students.  

Our qualified and experienced Montessori teachers prepare the classroom with inviting materials and activities to assist the child in their exploration. The role of the teacher is to link the child with the prepared environment, igniting their imaginations, further fostering a love of learning, respect for others, and a deep awareness and love for the world around them.
